Yes, vegetarians are people who choose not put animal parts on their plates. Vegans are those who go a step further and avoid consumption of animal products whenever possible and practical. The point is not to remain untouched by evil but to reduce the economic support for animal suffering. Arguing that because today it is impossible to live without consuming animal products, we should make no effort to reduce animal suffering is like arguing that because it is impossible to live without causing environmental damage, we should make no effort to reduce that damage.
