A coworker brought in an issue of Time from July with an article called “Should We All Be Vegetarians?. I have a few minor gripes but overall it is pretty balanced and an interesting read.
A Harvard professor uses science to argue that certain animals are gauranteed rights under existing law. I tend to agree with the author of the article that the philosophical argument for animal rights will have a greater impact:
Call me an animal lover, call me a shameless anthropomorphizer. But I’m most convinced by the animal rights movement when I’m made to consider that animals can suffer and feel emotion. I think most people are the same.
I find the results of this poll about longevity pretty surprising. It says that 65 percent of Americans don’t want to live to be 120. I consider 120 pretty much my minimum age goal. Heck, I figure I won’t even have put a dent in my reading list by then.
