Farmed Salmon Heavy in Chemicals, Group Says

“These first-ever tests of farmed salmon from U.S. grocery stores show that farmed salmon are likely the most PCB-contaminated protein source in the U.S. food supply… Based on these data we estimate that 800,000 people face an excess lifetime cancer risk … from eating farmed salmon.”

Less animal fat for women

The Institute of Medicine is recommending that women reduce their intake of animal fats in order to avoid dioxins.

[Dioxins] build up in fatty tissues in animals, so scientists believe that humans are exposed to them primarily when they eat animal fats. Unborn children and breast-feeding infants are especially vulnerable to the harmful effects, which can range from behavioral disorders to cancer.
