Resist and Unsubscribe

I'm not sure where I first heard about Scott Galloway's Resist and Unsubscribe campaign but it has gotten some media attention. Today I've unsubscribed from:

• Netflix
• Youtube TV
• Youtube Premium
• Spotify

I think that covers all of the ways I was giving money directly to Big Tech.

I'm mindful of Cory Doctorow's warnings that "voting with your wallet" isn't as great an idea as it seems, but Cory also acknowledges that there is a time and a place for boycotts. I think this one is well-targeted and has a chance of succeeding. You can judo this kind of thing into an improved quality of life, too. I plan to take my reduced screen time and spend more time on reading and on face-to-face time with friends.

I'm also mindful that this isn't a substitute for actual in-person protests. I'll keep going to those, too!
