Pandemonium Books & Games T-Shirt Fundraiser

Pandemonium is an excellent sci-fi/fantasy book and game shop in Cambridge. They recently re-located from the Garage in Harvard Square to a larger location in Central Square. The move was lengthier and more expensive than anticipated which has left them in some dire financial straights. They’re running a shirt drive to stay afloat. There are two spiffy designs available for pre-order now with a new design coming each month.

How ‘Dungeons’ changed the world

The Boston Globe has an editorial on the importance of Dungeons & Dragons.

Dungeons and Dragons was a not a way out of the mainstream, as some parents feared and other kids suspected, but a way back into the realm of story-telling. This was what my friends and I were doing: creating narratives to make sense of feeling socially marginal. We were writing stories, grand in scope, with heroes, villains, and the entire zoology of mythical creatures. Even sports, the arch-nemesis of role-playing games, is a splendid tale of adventure and glory. Though my friends and I were not always athletically inclined, we found agility in the characters we created. We fought, flew through the air, shot arrows out of the park, and scored points by slaying the dragon and disabling the trap.

Dungeon Majesty

Dungeon Majesty is a cable-access show where 4 girls play D&D and act out some scenes in front of a green screen with super-cheesy special effects and pen-and-paper animations. It’s like a cross between Xena, MST3K, and The Gamers. There’s a very entertaining trailer online but no episodes yet. [via Boing Boing]
